Why Your Business Needs Video Marketing in 2026

We've been saying "Get Video or Get Lost" for a long time. In 2026 it's less of a slogan and more of a friendly warning, like the local weatherman telling you to buy milk and bread before a snowstorm. Here are five reasons video belongs in your marketing plan this year, whether you're a two-person shop down the road or a Fortune 500 company.

1. You still have about ten seconds

People scroll fast. The attention span of the average internet user is roughly equal to a gnat's, and the gnat is winning. A headline and a stock photo of people high-fiving in a conference room don't stop anybody. Motion, a face and a sound do. Video is the fastest way to tell someone who you are and why they should care before their thumb moves on. And when people want to learn about a product, 63% say a short video is their first choice (Wyzowl, 2026).

2. Search is changing, and video helps you show up

HubSpot reports that about half of consumers now use AI-powered search, and about half of Google searches include an AI overview. Translation: fewer people are clicking through ten blue links like it's 2012. So you need to show up in more places: YouTube (the world's second biggest search engine), your Google Business Profile, social feeds and the video results on Google itself. A video with a good title and description works for you in every one of those spots, 24/7, and never once asks for overtime.

3. People want to see who they're hiring

With AI-generated content everywhere, real people are the new premium. A short video of you, your team and your shop builds trust faster than any "About Us" paragraph. It's the closest thing to a handshake before the first phone call, minus the awkward "do we hug?" moment.

4. It sells

85% of people say a video has convinced them to buy a product or service, and 83% of video marketers say video has directly increased their sales (Wyzowl, 2026). Explainer videos, product demos and customer testimonials answer questions before a prospect even has to ask them. It's like having your best salesperson on the clock around the clock, and this one never eats your leftovers out of the office fridge.

5. One shoot, a month of content

Short-form video ranked #1 for return on investment in HubSpot's 2026 survey of more than 1,500 marketers. The smart play isn't one video, it's one shoot: a main piece for your website plus a batch of short clips for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and LinkedIn. Work hard for a day, then sit back while your feeds stay busy for weeks. Work hard, play hard. That's the KWB way.
